The goal of this project was to select a community and display five "emojis" or expressive faces that best represent said community via collage, either physical or digital. Additional requirements included using a palette of 5 colors across all images and to use a total of 100 different images to create the collages. My community of choice was the Lao community that I grew up in, with a desire to express the liveliness of our culture through the color palette. I chose to create a physical collage out of magazine paper because I think that the individual pieces come about more organically than digitally cutting out images. The collaged faces were placed onto 4x4 inch squares, then cut out and arranged on a black foam board. The project has been photographed with each of the portraits isolated for enhanced digital viewing purposes.
